As Deputy General Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Human Resources, I watched how employment law decisions — the ones made in conference rooms — rippled out and affected real people's jobs, dignity, and livelihoods. As Chief Legal and Civil Rights Officer for the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, I led a legal team responsible for protecting the rights of over one million children across this state.
